We encourage you to take a stroll through the gardens this winter season and take in our festive seasonal displays, complete with planted containers; decorated trees; fresh-cut evergreens; hand-made wreaths, ornaments, and creations; and lights!
‘Winter King’ is known for producing larger drupes than the species and many other cultivars. These fruits persist well into winter and provide sustenance for many of the birds that frequent the Arboretum.
Maidenhair trees are showing off their fall outfits at the Arboretum. Our collection is currently transforming from green to golden yellow around our Marsh Meadow garden landscape.
With 65 specimens to admire, common witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) can be enjoyed for several weeks as they bloom from October to December and peak between mid-October and mid-November.
We are crazy for cucurbits! If you are a fan of autumn and all things harvest season, then you are likely also a fan of the Cucurbitaceae family, which includes squash (pumpkins and gourds included), cucumbers, and melons.
Sunflower blooms bring a vibrant pop of color to the harvest season, and now is a great time to enjoy the Arboretum’s collection of seasonal and perennial varieties which generally bloom from late summer into fall.
The Arboretum will twinkle with the lights of hundreds of nighttime displays at the 2023 Pumpkin Festival on Friday, October 6, and Saturday, October 7.
Asters are in full bloom at the Arboretum and are brightening up our gardens this fall with many diverse and attractive varieties. They provide a welcome pop of color into October and can even persist after the first few frosts!
Come enjoy a fall treat in the form of a pawpaw! The pawpaw tree (Asimina triloba) is native to Pennsylvania and there are 31 specimens that can be found at the Arboretum in the Pollinator and Bird Garden, Marsh Meadow, and Childhood’s Gate Children’s Garden.
