2022 Arboretum /  OPP Landscape Internships

The Office of Physical Plant and The Arboretum at Penn State are offering paid ($12/hour) internships for Penn State students interested in career paths in horticulture and related disciplines. These are full-time (40 hour/week) positions with a 14-week term from May 9 – August 12, 2022. Start and end dates are negotiable.

Interns will learn horticultural and grounds management practices in a public garden setting, working side by side with Arboretum staff to manage day-to-day garden operations throughout the growing season. Highlights include installation of the Arboretum’s summer floral display, supervision of volunteer groups, and skills training in the use of tools and equipment. All internships include an educational component featuring both on-campus sessions and off-site field trips. (Positions available – 5)

Avian Education Summer 2022 Internship

The Arboretum at Penn State is offering one paid ($13/hour) part-time (20 hour/week) summer internship for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates interested in environmental education and related topics. Position is for an 14- to 18-week term, with start and end dates negotiable. Scheduled internship activities generally take place between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays. Some early morning, evening, and weekend availability may be required.

This internship provides a hands-on introduction to outdoor, place-based education focused on birds and their ecological interactions. Work with the Arboretum’s education staff to develop and facilitate nature-based programs and activities focused on central Pennsylvania birds. Interns will also be introduced to the world of public gardens, integrating event planning, volunteer management, public relations skills, and donor support.

Childhood’s Gate Children’s Garden Summer 2022 Internship

The Arboretum at Penn State is offering paid ($12.50/hour) part-time (20 hour/week) summer internships for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates interested in career paths in environmental education and related topics. Positions are for 14-week terms, with start and end dates negotiable. Scheduled internship activities generally take place between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays. Some early morning, evening, and weekend availability may be required.

This internship provides a hands-on introduction to outdoor, place-based education in a children’s garden setting. The program will also expose interns to the world of public gardens, integrating event planning, volunteer management, public relations skills, and donor support.
