What connects true crime with carved hornbill skulls, Harpy Eagle headdresses, oil-covered roadrunners, hummingbird love charms, and live Indonesian songbirds? Find out the answer at the 2026 Avian Lecture!

This year’s speaker is Dr. Pepper Trail, who will describe his unique career as senior forensic ornithologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement, a subject which is by turns entertaining and appalling and illustrates the vital role of wildlife law enforcement in bird conservation. Dr. Trail worked on over two thousand cases, identifying bird remains submitted as evidence in wildlife crime investigations, and is the creator of The Feather Atlas of North American Birds, the leading website for feather identification.

Registration is required to participate in this event. Some registrants may be seated in overflow space.
