Wild Gardens in Cambodia Webinar
February 23 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Wild gardens are strategic groupings of low maintenance, perennial wild food plants. The species groupings may be selected to target household nutrition, local markets, or even livestock fodder. This international research project sought to optimize and promote the use of wild gardens as a tool to sustainably intensify underutilized land in rural areas, while targeting income generation and household nutrition.
Instructor: Dr. Rick Bates, a professor of horticulture, joined Penn State University’s Department of Plant Science in 2000. He received his Ph.D. in horticulture from Virginia Tech, and his B.S. and M. S. in horticulture from West Virginia University. Rick worked as a county extension agent in Ohio and Virginia and as an assistant professor at Montana State University prior to coming to Penn State.
