People have been using plants to make food and medicine in what is today central Pennsylvania for thousands of years. During this webinar, we’ll learn about common plants that are edible and medicinal that likely grow in your own backyard! We will talk about the history of these plants in the region, including their varied uses by both settlers and indigenous communities. We will also talk about foraged foods globally and their importance in people’s diets. 

Instructor: Amy Wrobleski is a graduate student in the Ecology program. She is interested in how humans interact with the environment, and how conservation strategies can better incorporate cultural practices. Her research examines how these interactions impact edible and medicinal plants and fungi around the world, from central Pennsylvania to the western desert of Australia.
