The Avian Education Program offers the opportunity to assist in banding birds in the Arboretum as part of an ongoing study for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Bird Banding Laboratory.

All banding takes place at the Air Quality Learning and Demonstration Center (Air Quality Site) in Big Hollow. The Air Quality Site is located adjacent to the Bellefonte Central Rail Trail in Big Hollow, approximately 0.5 mile NW of the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens. Banding headquarters is located in the permanent pavilion located at the site (40 °48’39.34”N and 77 ° 52’ 38.25”W).

Please contact the bander-in-charge, Nick Kerlin, for more information about banding activities. (See phone number and email address in side bar on right.)
