Avian Education Bird Banding

August 9 @ 7:00 am - 11:00 am

Free

The Avian Education Program offers the opportunity to assist in banding birds in the Arboretum as part of an ongoing study for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Bird Banding Laboratory.

All banding this fall will take place at a new site located along Hartley Wood and the field edge, 300 yards NW of the Arboretum’s Overlook Pavilion in the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens. All sessions are held from 7:00 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m. until October 4. Beginning on October 4, the sessions will be held from 7:30 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m. Precipitation or constant winds above 15 mph will result in cancellation.

The H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens are located near the intersection of Park Avenue and Bigler Road. Participants should meet at the Overlook Pavilion in the gardens.

Please contact the bander-in-charge, Nick Kerlin, for more information about banding activities. (See phone number and email address in side bar on right.)
