October 15, 2018 @ 6:30 am - 11:00 am
The Avian Education Program offers the opportunity to assist in banding birds in the Arboretum as part of an ongoing study for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Bird Banding Laboratory.
All banding this fall will take place at the Air Quality Learning and Demonstration Center (Air Quality Site) in Big Hollow, except for the sessions on September 8 and 22, which are being conducted in the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens. All sessions are held from 7:00 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m. until October 3. Beginning on October 3, the sessions will be held from 6:30 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m.
The Air Quality Site is located adjacent to the Bellefonte Central Rail Trail in Big Hollow, approximately 0.5 mile NW of the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens. Banding headquarters is located in the permanent pavilion located at the site (40 °48’39.34”N and 77 ° 52’ 38.25”W).
The H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens are located near the intersection of Park Avenue and Bigler Road. Participants in the September 8 and 22 banding sessions should meet at the Overlook Pavilion in the gardens.
