This page provides information about Arboretum research projects
and activities being conducted by Penn State faculty, staff, and
students, and reports about outreach activities related to that
research.
The first research facility, the
hybrid chestnut seed orchard, was established on June 24,
2002.
The first outreach facility to be developed in the Arboretum
is the Air Quality Learning
and Demonstration Center, which officially opened on September
12, 2003.
Biology students
have been using the Arboretum as a classroom on field trips for
Biology 110 (Basic Concepts and Diversity). This course is offered
through LEAP, the Learning Edge Academic Program, a bridge program
for incoming freshman that allows them to get a summer start at
navigating the University.
Classes in soil science visit a soil pit in the Arboretum section
near Overlook Heights. The pit is created in order to reveal the
layers or horizons in the soil for close-up study.
Please check our home page regularly for announcements about
open houses and University events related to future developments
in the Arboretum.
