Dr. Steiner is a professor of forest biology in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management. He chaired the effort to create an arboretum and botanic garden at Penn State beginning in 1995 and was appointed director shortly after the master plan was approved by the Board of Trustees in 1999. He is the author of more than 170 scientific and technical publications and is active nationally in forestry education issues. He serves on the boards of the Society of American Foresters and The American Chestnut Foundation.

Ms. Edelson earned a bachelor of arts degree in Philosophy, Psychology, and Cognitive Science at Goucher College, and a master of science degree in Public Horticulture at the University of Delaware and Longwood Gardens. She has worked with several public gardens and community greening organizations, including Reeves-Reed Arboretum, the Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College, and the Delaware Center for Horticulture, the Parks & People Foundation, and Cylburn Arboretum. Her responsibilities include the development and care of the Arboretum’s plant collections, oversight of new garden planning and construction, coordination of the internship programs, and facilitation of public education and outreach efforts.

Linda M. Duerr

Ms. Duerr has a bachelor of science degree from Penn State in Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood and a master of science degree from Penn State in Curriculum and Instruction, Language and Literacy, with an emphasis in Children’s Literature.

She has held positions in administration, teaching, and adult education, primarily within the early learning programs at Penn State (University Park). Most recently she was director of education at the Child Care Center at Hort Woods where she was a member of the design and program team for that Platinum LEED-certified building.

Ms. Duerr joined the Arboretum staff in August 2013 as the coordinator of children’s educational programs. She adds the perspective of an educator to our team as we begin the work of developing the programs for our Childhood’s Gate Children’s Garden which opened on July 7, 2014.

Amanda D. Pruss

Ms. Pruss has a bachelor of science degree in agronomy and environmental science with a minor in business administration from the Delaware Valley College of Agriculture and Science.

Her principal duties include the planning of cultivation and administrative meetings and events, and the identification and stewardship of donors and prospects. As a fiscal assistant, she manages income and expenses, provides monthly fiscal reports, and purchases supplies and services for various events.

Mr. Williams holds a bachelor of science degree in Parks and Recreation/Leisure Studies from Penn State. In his previous position as associate director of corporate and foundation relations, he worked to build corporate relationships between Penn State and Fortune 500 companies through research, recruiting, sponsorships, and philanthropy. Hired in January 2008 as the Arboretum’s director of development, Mr. Williams coordinates and manages fund-raising efforts.

Ms. Reeder holds a bachelor of arts degree in Liberal Arts (English) from Mansfield State College and a master of arts degree in Liberal Arts (English) from Penn State. She has previously held positions in program development and administrative planning with the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation and the Mid-State Employment and Training Consortium.

As event coordinator, she is responsible for collaborating with other staff to develop and host special Arboretum events and for renting spaces in the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens to the University and public for such activities as academic receptions, reunions, and weddings. Her duties as marketing coordinator for the Arboretum include developing promotional materials, maintaining the website, creating marketing strategies, coordinating public relations, assisting with fund-raising activities, and preparing grant applications.

Ms. Stoner holds a bachelor of science degree in Elementary Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz and a master of science degree in Public Administration from Marist College in New York. Ms. Stoner grew up among the vegetable and produce farms of the Mid-Hudson Valley, and enjoys having a part-time position at The Arboretum at Penn State. Her responsibilities include reviewing volunteer applications, interviewing prospective volunteers, scheduling volunteer activities and assignments, planning training sessions, and coordinating tours.
